Every year, thousands of Kerala students who missed their SSLC or Plus Two exams, need to retake a subject, or want to study while working turn to the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) to complete their qualification without attending regular daily classes. This guide walks you through exactly how NIOS admission works in 2026, who is eligible, and how Glowell Education Centre supports you from registration to result.

What Is NIOS?

NIOS is a national board established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, that lets learners complete their Secondary (SSLC-equivalent) and Senior Secondary (Plus Two-equivalent) education through open and distance learning. It is recognised by the UGC, AICTE and the Association of Indian Universities for admission to higher education and government jobs across the country, on par with a regular state or CBSE board certificate.

Because there is no requirement to attend daily classes, NIOS is especially popular with school dropouts, students who failed or want to improve a subject, working professionals, and adult learners returning to education later in life.
